For my debut project as a video designer, I collaborated on a stage production of Romeo & Juliet. The challenge was to create a visual design that would not only support the narrative but also dynamically interact with a highly unique and mobile stage.
Creative Approach
The theatrical set featured a large, rotating capsule at its center, enhanced by synchronized video projections that transformed the atmosphere in real time. Three projectors were used: two for a cohesive background image and a third for visuals on the capsule and floor, creating an immersive experience for the audience.
Technical Challenges
The project faced significant technical challenges, particularly in syncing background and foreground projections with the rotating capsule’s movement. This required precise calibration for harmonious visuals. Additionally, the two background projectors were manually edge-blended and color-calibrated to form a seamless panoramic image. Two laptops were used to manage the complex coordination of the projections.
