As the video designer for Marat/Sade, my role was to create an immersive visual experience that would amplify the play’s core themes of chaos and psychological tension. The production was a significant success, earning four nominations at the 36th Fadjr International Theater Festival.
Creative Approach
My stage design for Marat/Sade was distinctive, featuring two tall ramps and a central bathtub. I used three synchronized video projectors to create a dynamic, unsettling environment. The video content, which included abstract visuals and close-ups of the actors, interacted directly with the actors and the stage, creating a sense of disorientation and psychological tension. The live camera feed worn by the actor playing Sade added visual and narrative depth, leaving the audience inspired and intrigued.
Technical Challenges
This project’s visual design required careful technical planning. I designed and created all video content, using pre-recorded actor footage and pre-rendered videos with industry-standard software like After Effects and Cinema 4D. A key challenge was synchronizing three projections—two on ramps and one on the bathtub and floor—with the live performance, ensuring real-time responsiveness. The live camera feed was also integrated to create a cohesive final product.
