About This Project

As the video and projection designer for the highly successful play 100%, a production that sold out throughout December 2018, I had the privilege of creating a visual atmosphere that directly influenced the play’s narrative and mood. The story, which revolves around a girl who loses her leg in a car accident after a frustrating night at the theater, is a key element in our design process. She seeks revenge on the actor who ignored her, trapping him in a remote house during a storm and forcing him to play her psychological games.

Creative Approach

Weather, a powerful symbol of the characters’ shifting emotions, plays a vital role in the play. We used two synchronized video projections behind the house’s windows to illustrate the transition from night to dawn and from gentle rain to a violent storm. This design was essential to the set, isolating the characters and amplifying the production’s chaotic mood.

Technical Challenges

Our main challenge in this project was rendering the video footage. We utilized Cinema 4D and After Effects to create all the pre-rendered visuals, including calming rain, intense storms, and smooth transitions from night to dawn. This process required a high level of technical skill and creativity to produce visuals that were not only realistic but also seamlessly integrated into the live performance, enhancing the audience’s experience and reflecting the play’s psychological turmoil, which contributed significantly to the production’s success.
